Lumina: Magazine & Marketing Assets
Photoshop, InDesign & Illustrator
Marketing Assets (below)
The Problem:
For an upcoming artwork drop event, I needed to create materials to promote the project. I decided on making a gif showing all the pieces apart of the project and a magazine. The problem was to figure out a layout that would work well with my artwork and text.
The Solution:
The solution was creating draft layouts with coloured shapes and throwaway text. These drafts helped me visualize how to lay out my work in a magazine; on top of this, multiple things had to be taken in. Things like how it will look on print, the colour mode, print bleeding, spacing and more.
For the GIF, it was easier knowing it was not going to be printed out; therefore, I had less limitations but followed the same process as the magazine.
The Process:
The magazine project was created in Adobe InDesign, while the artwork for the magazine was created using Photoshop & Blender. Using the layouts I created, I mixed and matched a few, then decided on the one I wanted. I then filled in the text with my own and the shapes with my artwork. I did the same for the cover of the magazine, which was made in Adobe Illustrator, making sure everything was taken into account like if the text would bleed or get cut during print.
For the GIFs, the same process was used but created using the Photoshop Timeline feature, with an optimized gif that could be used on social medias like Twitter.
The Outcome:
The outcome was a magazine that was optimized for printing and reading online, the mockup showcases what it would look like when printed.
The GIFs came out perfectly, though there was trouble ensuring the aspect ratio was suitable for social media. Through some problem-solving (the answer was unfortunately not online), I discovered the limitations of Twitter and how some GIFs of certain sizes cannot be posted.
